From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. The word occult comes from the Latin word occultus (clandestine, hidden, secret), referring to "knowledge of the hidden". In the medical sense it is used to refer to a structure or process that is hidden, e.g. an "occult bleed" may be one detected indirectly by the presence of otherwise unexplained anaemia. The word has many uses in the English language, popularly meaning "knowledge of the paranormal", as opposed to "knowledge of the measurable", usually referred to as science. The term is sometimes popularly taken to mean "knowledge meant only for certain people" or "knowledge that must be kept hidden", but for most practicing occultists it is simply the study of a deeper spiritual reality that extends beyond pure reason and the physical sciences. The terms esoteric and arcane can have a very similar meaning, and the three terms are often interchangeable. The term occult is also used as a label given to a number of magical organizations or orders, the teachings and practices taught by them, and to a large body of current and historical literature and spiritual philosophy related to this subject . GNU Free Documentation License My dad has to take a home fecal occult test, should I be worried? Q. My dad had a medical last week, and I have just found a fecal occult test on his desk. Should I be worried? Do they give lots of people these home tests? Is there a problem? I don't want to ask him, so I just wondered if someone could give me some info? Asked by mini emo - Sat May 2 18:33:28 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. Fecal occult blood testing is used for colon cancer screening. The cards screen your colon for microscopic blood. If the test comes back negative (no blood) then you father should get a flex sig (which is a shorter version of a colonoscopy) every 5 years and do the stool cards yearly. If the test comes back positive (has blood in it) then he will need to get a full colonoscopy. However, if your father has a family history of colon cancer, polyps or has any unusual bowel habits (like diarrhea or constipation) or has seen blood in his stool then he should get a colonoscopy and not even bother with the stool cards. So, it is normal for your doctor to give these cards to your father, it does not mean that there is something wrong with him :) Answered by Andrea - Sat May 2 18:53:05 2009 how likely is an occult fracture in the wrist? Q. i got xrayed within 12 hrs of falling and it cam back negative. what are the odds that it was an occult fracture? Asked by Salade Girl - Mon Oct 12 08:49:21 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Can't tell from the information you provided. Did the doctor read the x-ray or a radiologist? If it was a doctor, s/he could have missed something. Ask for a copy of the radiology report. But it isn't likely unless it's very tiny crack in a tiny bone. Sprains and strains can hurt a lot and the treatment is somewhat similar, rest, ice, wrapping it. Is there a reason you think they missed a fracture? Q. Yes, I'm serious. I managed to make sense out of the early Alchemic texts. Asked by anonymous2260 - Wed Mar 26 15:59:04 2008 - - 2 Answers - 1 Comments A. I wouldn't mind learning, but you do realize that it would make the metal in question that you can produce (predominantly gold) practically worthless? But hey, teach me anyways. I could use the money for some future inventions I have. Answered by noober - Wed Mar 26 16:04:23 2008 From Yahoo Answer Search: "occult"
